Letter to our family at Squamish Nation

September 9, 2020

Prayers to Squamish Nation

On September 4, 2020, Musqueam sent a letter to Squamish Nation to show support for our family affected by COVID-19.

To Squamish Nation Chief, Council,
Administration and Community:

Musqueam sends our thoughts and prayers to our family at Squamish Nation that are affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus.
We commend your community’s rapid response to this public health emergency. We know the immense amount of hard work that goes into supporting members through difficult times and keeping your community safe.
Like our ancestors, Squamish Nation has demonstrated the capabilities that Indigenous communities have in coming together to support one another in times of crisis.
We know these next few weeks will be challenging for your community, and the next few months will be challenging for every First Nation in British Columbia and throughout Canada. We extend our support to your leadership, staff and membership and want to assist in any way that we can. Our coordinated effort to combat this pandemic will result in more of our community members remaining virus-free.
As we always have, Musqueam stands in solidarity with our relatives at Squamish Nation. Paying respect to our shared history and deeply connected roots, we are praying for the full recovery of your COVID-19 patients and for the outbreak within your community to be over soon.
Get well soon,
Musqueam Chief, Council and Administration
