Confirmed COVID-19 cases on Musqueam Reserve

This morning, Musqueam Administration was notified of confirmed COVID-19 cases within one household on Musqueam Reserve.

These community members are isolated and receiving support from Musqueam Health and Musqueam’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team. Out of respect to their privacy, only health officials are aware of their identities.

Contact Tracing

BC’s health officials are currently contact tracing and notifying individuals who may have come into contact with this household, including family and friends residing on reserve.

If you are contacted, you must isolate and monitor for symptoms, and we encourage you be tested for COVID-19. Musqueam Reserve residents can call the Community Health Nurse at 604-362-9200 to book a test if needed.

New Protocols for Musqueam Reserve

Musqueam Council and Administration has been preparing for confirmed cases on reserve for many months. Please remember to stay calm and take care of each other during this difficult time. This is not a time to panic, and instead is a time to enhance our safety measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

As of January 7, 2021, Council has put in place new health protocols for Musqueam Reserve that are in effect until further notice. These protocols were recommended by Musqueam Health and Musqueam’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team.

Musqueam Reserve Health Protocols as of January 7, 2021
Stay in Place.
Musqueam Reserve residents must stay in their own homes for the next 7 days, only leaving for essential needs such as: food, water, medication, medial appointments/needs, or work.

Avoid non-essential activities such as golfing, walking or visiting from people outside your household.

Musqueam’s COVID-19 Emergency Management Team is available to support community members who do not want to shop for essentials.

Going to Work.
Work is an essential need, and you are not being discouraged from working at this time.

If you are not working from home and were in contact with any individuals outside of your household, you should follow protocols provided by Vancouver Coastal Health Authority prior to returning to your work environment.

Security.
Security will be increased at the traffic checkpoints to assist with the stay in place protocol.
External Contractors and Workers.
Individuals that are external workers on reserve must pause services until contractors can provide proof of negative COVID-19 tests or these health protocols are lifted. Except from this protocol are individuals employed by Musqueam Administration (Security or Health).

Musqueam Health Resources

Here are two important documents from Musqueam Health.

  1. Musqueam COVID Risk Level Protocol to illustrate Musqueam’s model for assessing risk and implementing health protocols on Musqueam Reserve.
  2. COVID-19 Positive Test Response Protocol for individuals who test positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 Support from Administration

Contact the Musqueam COVID-19 hotline if you have questions or need support while isolating after potential or confirmed exposure to COVID-19.

It is only with renewed focus on protecting each other that we will see our loved ones again. Please review health protocols closely, and do what is necessary to keep Musqueam strong.

This notice was delivered to every household on Musqueam Reserve on January 7, 2021.
