COVID-19 Vaccine Update for Musqueam Members

January 14, 2021

When will Musqueam get the COVID-19 vaccine?

First Nations are priority population for COVID-19 vaccine

Musqueam Health has been in regular communication with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH) since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, since BC’s announcement of the provincial COVID-19 vaccine roll out, our health department staff have been in constant communication with public health officials about when Musqueam will receive vaccines.

Dr. Bonnie Henry identified First Nation communities as a priority population to receive vaccines, hopefully by the end of March. This month, some remote First Nations in BC started receiving the first doses and vaccinating members.

Musqueam’s COVID-19 vaccine timeline

As for Musqueam, we do not have a specific date yet for when our community will receive vaccines. Musqueam staff are working hard to be ready to vaccinate the entire Musqueam community when vaccines arrive.

In the coming weeks, Musqueam Health is hosting an online COVID-19 vaccine information session for members to ask questions directly to Musqueam’s nurses and administration.

Chief Wayne Sparrow said in his update last night: the vaccine will be available to ALL Musqueam members, whether you live on or off reserve. In the coming weeks, please stay informed by regularly check our website, the weekly newsletter or the official Musqueam Facebook Page for the latest updates.

Learn about the Covid-19 vaccine

Musqueam Health created two new infographics for members to learn about the COVID-19 vaccines and virus statistics for BC First Nations. The first infographic has all the information you need to know about the two approved COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.

The FNHA released a report on December 29, 2020 with data about COVID-19 cases within First Nations communities. This graphic was created by Musqueam Health to highlight the key statistics that were reported. Click here to read the FNHA’s full report.
