Archives and Research Assistant – P/T – term

Musqueam is seeking a team of Archives and Research Assistants to work with the Archives and Research Department on a large-scale and broad-based transcription project of the archives’ records. These positions will build a lasting legacy for future generation of Musqueam by creating the foundation for supporting greater accessibility for outreach and engagement, cultural continuity and revitalization, defense of rights and title and self-governance.


Key Responsibilities
  • Transcription of textual and audio records in accordance with the Musqueam Archives’ transcription guides to create searchable records. This work may involve engaging with multiple writing systems and languages/dialects
  • Indexing and coding of records in the Musqueam Archives’ databases, as required
  • Tracking and driving completion of key deliverables and follow-up on outstanding items
  • Successfully complete critical aspects of deliverables with a hands-on approach, including drafting various documents and correspondence
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to read cursive handwriting
  • Understanding of, and competency with, Musqueam’s hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language and writing system is an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), PDF documents, and audio file formats (e.g. .wav and .mp3)
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn how to use Audacity or similar audio software
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn FileMaker Pro
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills with the ability to plan and execute work effectively
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge and experience of Musqueam or First Nations culture and history is a strong asset


Working Conditions
  • Will be working remotely using digitized files
  • Work Laptop can be issued
  • Will need internet to be able to access files and attend virtual meetings
  • Successful criminal background check required


  • Wage rate at $20 per hour
