Why do a mammogram screening?
About 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Regular screening mammograms can find breast cancer early, usually before it has spread. Make it part of your regular health routine.
Screening mammograms are available for BC women 40 years and older with no symptoms, and only take about ten minutes. If under 40 years old, you must have a doctor’s referral.
The mobile clinic is comfortable and private space that uses state-of-the-art digital mammography equipment. The vehicles include a reception area, dressing area, wheelchair access and mammography examination room.
Mandatory eligibility
If you answer yes to any of these questions, you are not eligible for a screening mammogram at this time:
- Are you currently pregnant?
- Have you been breast feeding in the last three months?
- Have you had breast enlargement surgery, such as implants or injections? Have you had breast cancer?
- Do you now have any new breast complaints such as a solitary lump or nipple discharge? Have you had a mammogram on both breasts in the last 12 months?
To book an appointment, you must meet all eligibility requirements set out by BC Cancer.
