Musqueam hires Devin Sharma as new chief administrative officer

February 5, 2021

Musqueam Indian Band’s Chief and Council is pleased to announce that Devin Sharma is the new chief administrative officer (CAO).

Devin first joined Musqueam as the human resources manager in 2019. He became the interim CAO in June 2020 after leading the COVID-19 emergency response team since the beginning of the pandemic. In that time, Devin implemented a community pandemic response plan, which supports members accessing emergency resources and ensure the safe continuation of essential programs and services.

In 2020, for the first time ever, council, administration and community transitioned to virtual meetings, gathering spaces and celebrations. Devin increased Musqueam’s ability to digitally engage community by establishing permanent livestreaming options in the gymnasium, hosting online community meetings and supporting more diverse channels for online engagement. These steps resulted in Musqueam Reserve remaining COVID-free for all of 2020.

As a human resources expert, Devin brings experience in organizational planning, management training and policy development and implementation. As CAO, he reports to Musqueam Chief and Council and is responsible for the daily operations and management of Musqueam’s administration.

From Musqueam Chief Wayne Sparrow:

“Musqueam’s administration is rapidly growing to keep up with the growth of our community. Since 2019, Devin Sharma has continually demonstrated his leadership abilities and strategic vision to ensure we sustain this growth and provide more for our members. hay čxʷ q̓ə, Devin, for taking on this important role and for your commitment to Musqueam’s vision of self-governance.”

From Devin Sharma, Musqueam CAO:

“Over the past year and a half, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, I have witnessed the passion and dedication Musqueam’s staff have for their work. I am looking forward to continuing to support staff and the growth of our administration while we work towards self governance, while always ensuring Musqueam stays true its community values.”
