Call for Musqueam Artists: Pearson Dogwood Redevelopment

October 10, 2020
By Odette Wilson
Musqueam Soccer Field

Pearson Dogwood Site Redevelopment

The Pearson Dogwood Project will address priority health care needs through the redevelopment of two residential care facilities. It brings together community programs serving South Vancouver to support local residents with health services and supports.

Pearson Dogwood is located on the unceded traditional territory of Musqueam. Vancouver Coastal Health would like to acknowledge this through the commissioning of two “Traditional Marker” House Posts to be installed at an entrance of the new development.

Request for Musqueam Artist Proposals

Vancouver Coastal Health requests proposals from Musqueam artists for two carved Territorial Markers for the Pearson Dogwood Redevelopment.

Artist(s) selection will be done by a panel of cultural experts from Musqueam.

RFP Pearson Dogwood Posts

Eligibility

This project is open to both aspiring and established Musqueam artists.

Deadline

November 6, 2020 at 4pm

Project Specifications

  • Symbolism: Each post will symbolize the new found community through concepts of holistic health, healing and wellness from a Musqueam perspective.
  • Design: Posts installed around the steel beam in a 360 design, or a 1/2 round panel design, or 2 panel design installed on the front and back of the beam. It is mandatory that the design expresses Musqueam artform and not the style of other Nations.
  • Dimensions: 14-feet
  • Carving/Construction: Artist(s) will need to organize their own carving shed for their log during the build process. Artist(s) will need to organize the delivery, and provide supervised direction of its installment.
