Call for expressions of interest from Elders
The Musqueam Land Code Committee of Council is seeking an Elder to fill a vacant committee position. All Elder band members are eligible to be considered for an appointment to the committee.
The Land Code Committee works closely with the Lands Governance Department to implement the Musqueam Land Code (2012), which is one of the first steps we have taken towards self-governance.
The committee is core to supporting Musqueam Lands governance by reviewing and recommending draft laws, lands and development applications and other considerations for council.
Musqueam Council is the deciding body for selecting committee members.

About Musqueam Land Code
Musqueam Land Code was approved by community through a ratification vote in 2012, and is effective as of 2017.
Our land code is a form of sectoral self-government under the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management with Canada. This means governance and regulation related to land within Musqueam reserve (“Musqueam Lands”) is different than neighbouring municipalities.
As per Musqueam Land Code s.6.1, Musqueam Council may make laws respecting development, protection, management, use and possession of Musqueam Lands, including interests, licenses, and other matters.
The Land Code Committee supports this work by reviewing draft laws and making recommendations to council.
