Musqueam Reserve master planning kickoff events

November 24, 2021

Musqueam is creating a master plan for the future of the main Musqueam Reserve (IR #2). The plan will be created by our community, for our community, to meet the needs of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm families today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

We need all members to be part of this community-driven plan for our future. There are two events this December to kick off the planning. We want to hear what YOU think should happen on our land.

Kickoff events

Musqueam is kicking off the master planning process by hosting two engagement events, one in-person and one online. Musqueam members can learn more about what the master plan is and give ideas for what they think should be included.

Community dinner and discussion
Tuesday, December 7, 2021
Doors at 5pm | Dinner at 5:30
Register here

During dinner, family groups will talk about ideas for the future of Musqueam Reserve.

After dinner, the event will transition from small-group conversations to a community-group presentation. The project team will hear about each family group’s discussion, and give an overview of the master plan process. There will also be time for community questions and answers.

Childcare provided. Transportation available.

Virtual community discussion
Wednesday, December 8, 2021
6pm
Register here

Members who aren’t able to attend the in-person dinner discussion are invited to join the online conversation the next night. The project team will give the same presentation, plus there will be interactive activities, surveys and opportunities to provide your ideas for the future of Musqueam Reserve.

Learn more about the master plan

Musqueam’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) was developed collaboratively with band members. The first version was released in 2011, and an updated version was released in 2018.

As part of the CCP, Musqueam identified two core objectives, 11 community objectives for the future of our community and 21 actions that would help us achieve these objectives.

The community objectives included supporting member education, providing more housing, improving healthcare, advancing better governance and taking pride in our culture.

The Musqueam IR #2 Master Plan brings to life the CCP vision and objectives. Like the CCP, the master planning process will be community-driven, meaning that the plan will reflect our community’s input. Specifically, the master plan will take a community-focused approach to determine future development and preservation of our main reserve.

Your participation can help build a plan for:

  • new housing
  • opportunities for jobs and entrepreneurship
  • celebrating and protecting our history and culture
  • sustainable and environmentally-friendly development
  • revenue to support xʷməθkʷəy̓əm today and for generations to come
