Musqueam is pleased to share this update with its members from the Jericho Lands project team, led by Canada Lands Company and MST Development.
On June 23rd, Vancouver City Council will be asked to endorse draft Guiding Principles and Emerging Ideas for the development of the ʔəy̓alməxʷ / Iy̓álmexw / Jericho Lands. These are two important building blocks towards the development of a Policy Statement, which would guide future development of the site. It is anticipated that the Policy Statement will be presented to Vancouver City Council in spring 2022 for their consideration.
City of Vancouver staff have prepared a report that summarizes the City’s engagement process, what was heard, and presents the draft Guiding Principles and Emerging Ideas. We invite you to take a look at the report, especially the draft Guiding Principles and Emerging Ideas, which start on page 10 of the document.
Input from MST Nations Members received by the Jericho Lands planning team has also been instrumental in developing the Guiding Principles and Emerging Ideas. Thank you to all who have participated in our engagement events—we look forward to continuing to engage with you as planning and development proceeds forward.
We are pleased that City staff and those who participated in the engagement have recognized the importance of the ʔəy̓alməxʷ / Iy̓álmexw / Jericho Lands as a site of reconciliation and prosperity to support the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. The development of the site will support opportunities for education, training and employment for Members, and reflect the leadership role that the Nations play as stewards of the lands and in setting a global precedent for reconciliation and contemporary Indigenous development.
