Learning Pods: Register with school and Musqueam Education

Last week, we announced an exciting new initiative for on-reserve K-12 students.  Musqueam Learning Pods offer an option for students to learn from home during COVID-19, with support from Musqueam instructors. The learning pods are made possible because of Musqueam’s close relationship with the Vancouver School Board and several independent/private schools in Vancouver. Parents are reminded to register their children with both the school and Musqueam Education so that we can support your child to stay connected to their classroom.

Learning from Home Transition Support

The Vancouver School Board (VSB) is offering four learning options for elementary students during COVID-19.

The two options that parents indicated the most interest in:

• Option 1: Returning to In-Person Attendance
• Option 4: Learning from Home Transition Support

The Musqueam Learning Pods support parents choosing Option 4. The classroom spaces at schools are held for the student, enabling them to learn from home with support from our Musqueam educators. Students have the option to return to  in-person instruction in the future.

Register with the School and Musqueam

Parents registering their children for the Musqueam Learning Pods must also register their children with their home school, and choose Option 4 of the Elementary Restart Plan.

Please do not withdraw your children from their primary school. We want all students to stay connected to their classroom teacher, school community and to receive supports from the schools. If you de-register or withdraw your child, there is no guarantee a space will be available if they choose to return to in-class instruction.

Private and Independent Schools

Vancouver private and independent schools are also working closely with Musqueam Education to support on-reserve students learning from home this September. Parents should contact their schools and Musqueam Education to ensure the classroom spots are held and they will receive a learning package from the school each week.

• Immaculate Conception School
• St. George’s School
• West Point Grey Academy
• Fraser Academy
• St. Patrick Regional Secondary
• Vancouver College
• Little Flower Academy
• Crofton House School

Support for students living away from home

Musqueam also supports off-reserve members that are students, from kindergarten through to graduate studies. Please contact Musqueam Education to learn how we can support your child’s success
