Our working group to build our community

All Musqueam community members are invited to attend the weeklong Community Design Workshop for the Musqueam Reserve Master Plan happening in the cultural centre from June 13-18. This is rescheduled from April 27 – May 4.

The IR2 Master Plan is an extension of our Comprehensive Community Plan, and will help guide future development and protection of Musqueam lands at the heart of our community.

The Community Design Workshop includes six days of events, starting on Monday, June 13 with an opening dinner, and ending with a community lunch and open house on Saturday, June 18. There are special sessions for youth, elders and artists, and topic-specific session throughout the week.

There are two all-community events

Opening Dinner – Monday, June 13, 5pm
Register here
Kick-off event to update members on the plan so far and explain what will happen throughout the week.

Open House – Saturday, June 18, 10:30am-3pm
Register here
Informal open house to review the master plan and share your final thoughts.
Lunch provided.

All events are in the cultural centre and will also be livestreamed.

Events throughout the week

Specific topic meetings – These are dedicated times set aside to share your opinion and knowledge about specific parts of the Master Plan, such as environmental protection and respecting archaeological and cultural use sites.

Topics covered:

  • Housing
  • Economic Development
  • Sustainability
  • Community Services
  • Landscape & Ecology
  • Transportation & Infrastructure
  • Special Use Sites

Open Design studio time – Throughout the week, you can come by any time to watch the design team in action, ask questions, and share ideas.

The schedule for the workshop can also be found online.

What is a masterplan?

The Musqueam Master Plan will help us answer questions like:

  • What should new housing for Musqueam members look and feel like?
  • What kind of spaces do we need for things like healthcare, education, jobs, and recreation?
  • How should new streets be designed that focus on safety and accessibility for youth and elders?
  • And many more!

Musqueam people have always planned and used our land to meet our community needs. This workshop is an opportunity to sq̓əq̓ip – to gather together and share our ideas, listen to each other and learn from each other.

Musqueam Band Members and their families (including non-band members of Musqueam families) who live both in Musqueam Reserve and away from home are welcome to drop in any time to any of the sessions of the workshop.

Childcare and transportation support are provided.

There are also online surveys and other ways to get involved if you can’t make it to the workshop in person.

Please invite any Musqueam family or friends to the Community Design Workshop!

If you have any questions, please contact: Desirae Fraser at (778) 988-5342 or by email at [email protected]

All information about the workshop, the master plan can be found on the project’s website: www.mibmasterplan.com/workshop
