Members needed for MCRC Design Advisory Group | Musqueam Community Rental Complex

October 30, 2020

Call for Musqueam Members to join an advisory group for new rental complex

The Musqueam Community Rental (MCRC) Project Team is seeking Musqueam members to join an advisory group focusing on the exterior design of the new housing complex. Today, an update was released about the MCRC that reports to community what we heard in the second phase of engagement, including the survey and information session held in summer 2020. The next step of this second phase of engagement is forming the MCRC Design Advisory Group to provide input directly to the project architects that will help to inform the overall design of the MCRC. Specifically, we are looking for storytellers, artists and members who are passionate about housing in our community.

Purpose of the MCRC Design Advisory Group

The MCRC Design Advisory Group will provide cultural advice and insight to the project team, including MIB staff and architects, to inspire the design of the exterior of the three MCRC buildings. The goal is to “Musqueamize” the complex to reflect Musqueam culture, history, design, stories, language and more.

Scope of Participation

Two online workshops with the project architect, Urban Arts Architecture. These workshops will be on Zoom from 6:30-8pm. Personal access to technology is not required. The first workshop is November 12, 2020.

Eligibility

The MCRC Design Advisory Group will be comprised of six to eight (6-8) Musqueam members living on and off reserve who are selected through an expression of interest application process.

You do not need to be eligible to live in the new rental complex to participate in the advisory group. Attendance at previous information sessions is preferable.

The advisory group will be comprised of:
  • Youth (15-29)
  • Elders (on and off reserve)
  • Current BC Housing resident
  • Project neighbour
  • On and off reserve members

How to apply

Complete the expression of interest application form by Sunday, November 9.

There are three ways to submit your application:

  • Complete the online application form
  • Take a photo of the PDF application and email it to [email protected]
  • Drop off paper applications to the band office

Participants will be selected by the MIB project community engagement team.
