Warning for Musqueam Reserve residents

Musqueam Safety and Security Department

A female band member was verbally accosted by a vagrant/homeless person yesterday afternoon. There has been an increased number of non-residents and vagrant/homeless people entering Musqueam Reserve during this pandemic.

If you encounter a homeless person on Musqueam Reserve, please follow these steps:
    1. Do not approach or make any conversation. Do not engage in any means. i.e. verbal (do not try to talk or yell) or physical
    2. Get to a safe place – i.e. checkpoint, house, or with someone you know
    3. Call Security – 604-968-8058, or 9-1-1 if more serious
Things to remember:
    • Description – clothing-height-weight-visible scars-beard
    • Direction – street name-address-horse trail
    • Photo – only if there is no longer a danger to yourself
Personal Walking Safety Tips:
    • Use the buddy system
    • Walk with a friend or family member and avoid walking alone
    • Stay on public trails that are well lit
    • Avoid talking with anyone who you do not recognize
    • Pay attention to your surroundings and trust your gut feelings
    • Walk with confidence
