50th Anniversary of the Musqueam Declaration — June 10, 2026
Dear Musqueam Community,
Today, June 10th, marks 50 years since our Elders and leaders signed the Musqueam Declaration in 1976. The men and women who signed that document, including Elders like James Point who lived to over 100 years old, and former Councillor Arthur Stogan Snr who signed the Declaration and has helped guide much of the work. Our leaders knew the history of this land and they recorded and documented it with clarity and purpose. In the 50 years since, we have never moved our traditional territory boundary line once. That is something we are very proud of at Musqueam.
Our youth are the future of this community, and we need to continue to work with them so they understand what our past leaders were doing and what their vision was. The message from those leaders, and the leaders coming behind us, is to live up to the Declaration and expand on it. I hope you will take a moment to watch the video below to hear more about what this anniversary means and what this document has meant to our people.
We look forward to seeing you tonight at the Musqueam Community Centre as we come together to reflect on the strength of those who came before us and look to the future we are building for our future generation.
