In June, Musqueam gifted a name to a new park in downtown Vancouver at a naming ceremony co-hosted with Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh: sθәqәlxenәm ts’exwts’áxwi7. The name translates to “rainbow” in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (“sθəqəlxenəm”) and Squamish (“ts’exwts’áxwi7”). In English, the park can be called Rainbow Park.
To celebrate the naming and relationship between Musqueam and the Vancouver Park Board, sθəqəlxenəm will be closed to the public on August 11 from 11-3pm for Musqueam to gather and enjoy the park.
The park features a ‘destination’ playground: towers, slides, trampolines, climbing ropes, water fountain, elevated walkway
Park artwork includes a banner designed by Musqueam artist Kitty Guerin.
