Vancouver Whitecaps Training
In preparation for the Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match, Chief Wayne paid a special visit to the Vancouver Whitecaps players, sharing captivating stories from his soccer experiences that resonated deeply with the team. His presence not only honoured the players but also served as a source of inspiration, reminding them of the rich history and cultural significance of the game.
Building strong relationships is essential, especially with our neighbors, such as the Vancouver Whitecaps, who train on Musqueam territory at UBC. This collaboration embodies our Musqueam value of shared responsibility, emphasizing the importance of community, respect, and partnership.
Vancouver Whitecaps Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match
The day was filled with great memories as we proudly celebrated the Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match with the Vancouver Whitecaps on April 11!
Our Musqueam youth, under the guidance of Russell Teibert, a former player for the Whitecaps and Team Canada, and who now serves as the Director of the Musqueam Next Generation Soccer Program, took part in a transformative pre-game soccer clinic with other Indigenous youth players. They embraced the opportunity to learn new skills, engage in spirited mini-games, and experience the excitement of the match.
With the anticipation of all the soccer events throughout the city, we eagerly await more inspiring moments that lie ahead!
YVR Annual Address Luncheon with the Greater Vancouver Board Of Trade
During the YVR Airport Annual Address on April 10, YVR CEO Tamara Vrooman emphasized the significance of the enduring Friendship Agreement between YVR and Musqueam. She described the agreement as a living commitment, grounded in respect, shared stewardship, and the recognition of Musqueam as the traditional and unceded territory on which YVR operates.
This agreement continues to influence our approach to building relationships, creating space for Musqueam voices, opportunities, and presence throughout the airport. It serves as an exemplary model of how collaboration can extend beyond mere consultation to foster genuine relationships rooted in reciprocity and long-term trust.
A special thank you to Councillor Michele Point, who represented Chief Wayne and brought a warm welcome to event attendees. Her words were filled with wisdom and authenticity.
