Chief Sparrow, accompanied by Musqueam drummers Arthur Stogan Sr., Thelma Stogan, and Felecia Stogan, warmly welcomed the Team Canada athletes back to Vancouver at YVR Airport. They were joined by Musqueam member Mary Point, the Director of Indigenous Relations for the Vancouver Airport Authority.
Among the returning athletes were members of the Canadian Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey team and the Luge team, who had just completed a lengthy flight from Milan, Italy. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and pride as they stepped into the arrival hall and were truly honoured as they experienced a special Musqueam welcome.
This homecoming was particularly momentous for Jenn Gardiner, a passionate hockey player hailing from Surrey. This was her inaugural Olympics, and she not only represented her country but also etched her name in history by scoring her very first Olympic goal during a nail-biter match against Finland on February 12th. The pride of her family and community resonated through the airport as cheers erupted, celebrating the accomplishments of these remarkable athletes. Go Team Canada!
